JUNETEENTH @ CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH

We are eternally grateful to those who were a part of the 2021 Juneteenth Heritage Celebration on the grounds of the Calvary Baptist Church in Santa Monica, CA. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.

Saturday, June 19, 2021, the grounds of the oldest African-American Baptist church in Santa Monica was transformed into a place of celebration of heritage, achievement, equity, and culture. As Juneteenth celebrates African-American freedom, achievement, continuous self-development, and respect for all cultures, we believe that this event greatly aligned with our values and mission.
